Tying the Classic Salmon Fly, my first book published in 1997 by Stackpole Books, is not just a "how to" guide on tying the Classic Salmon Fly, it also includes information on dyeing techniques, a chapter on making your own exhibition quality hooks, techniques on framing your flies and much more.
Classic Salmon Fly Materials, my second book also published by Stackpole Books in 2006, is an in-depth look at the materials used to tie the classics and includes not just material descriptions and origins but also valuable techniques on making them work for you on your flies. The book features a Gallery section of photographs of the most used materials plus a special section featuring reproductions of hand-colored engravings from selected early 19th century books on salmon flies.
Twenty Salmon Flies, my newest book published by Stackpole Books in 2010, is a complete guide on tying the classics aimed at the fly tier just beginning his or her journey into the world of Classic Salmon Flies. The book includes 10 chapters each featuring two selected flies. Also included with the book is a video DVD with 18 video clips depicting various techniques described in the book itself. The chapters present in-depth techniques for tying a total of 20 flies starting with the very simplest in chapter 1 and ending with the most complex in chapter 10. The chapters, all told, provide a step-by-step way to master tying any classic salmon fly the reader might encounter. At the end of the book is an Appendix listing patterns for an additional 100 flies which will help the reader continue his or her exploration of this fascinating art form. Note: I order books directly from the publisher when I receive orders from this site so it may take as long as two weeks from the time you place your order to when you receive your book.
I apologize for this delay.
Please Note: Amazon lists Twenty Salmon Flies as paperback - THIS IS INCORRECT! The book is HARDBOUND and is the same size dimensionally as my first two books making for a complete series of three books.
Tying the Classic Salmon Fly Two DVD Set contains detailed video showing how I tie a Jock Scott - arguably the most famous Classic Salmon Fly - from start to finish. It will show you how I go about working with materials and is meant for the beginning and experienced fly tier alike.
The "Body Divider" is featured in the DVD set described above and is a great aid in producing constistent body divisions for all your multi-section flies from 2 divisions up to 5. Great for tying those Traherne series flies!
Note: All books purchased from this site will be inscribed by me with a personal message to the buyer along with my signature.
